1. Agreement

These terms govern your use of the ChanzoPlay website and its stories, narrated read-alouds and puzzles (the "service"). By using the service you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

ChanzoPlay is operated from 22 Bromoel Road, Birch Acres, Kempton Park, Johannesburg, 1618, South Africa.

2. Who may use the service

The content is made for children, but accounts are for adults to create and manage. If you are under 18, please use ChanzoPlay with a parent, guardian or teacher, and ask them to set up the account.

By creating an account for a child in your care, you confirm that you are that child's parent, guardian or an adult authorised to act for them.

3. Your account

Give accurate information when you register.
Keep your password confidential and do not share your account.
Tell us promptly if you think someone else has used your account.

We may suspend or close an account that is used to break these terms, to harm other users, or to attack or disrupt the service.

4. Our content

The stories, illustrations, narration, puzzle artwork, the ChanzoPlay name and the Modala character are owned by ChanzoPlay or used with permission, and are protected by copyright and trade mark law.

Several of our Traditional Tales are our own retellings of traditional African folk tales. The underlying folk tales belong to the cultures that carried them; our particular wording and illustrations are our work.

5. What you may do with it

You may read, listen to and play our content for personal, family and classroom use. Teachers may read our stories aloud to a class and use our puzzles in lessons.

You may not, without our written permission:

sell, rent or redistribute our content;
publish it on another website, app or platform;
copy, download or scrape it in bulk, including for training machine learning models;
remove or obscure our name, logo or copyright notices;
create merchandise or derivative works from our artwork or characters.

6. Acceptable use

Please do not:

attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the service;
probe, scan or test the security of the service without our consent;
interfere with the service or place an unreasonable load on it, including through automated requests;
upload anything containing malware;
use the service for anything unlawful.

7. Third-party services

Signing in with Google is subject to Google's own terms and privacy policy. Narration audio is generated through a third-party text-to-speech provider. We are not responsible for third-party services, and their availability is outside our control.

8. Availability

We aim to keep ChanzoPlay available and working, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may change, suspend or withdraw content or features, and we may carry out maintenance that makes the service temporarily unavailable.

9. Educational content

Our content is intended to support reading, language and problem-solving for children. It is a supplement to teaching and parenting, not a substitute for a curriculum, professional educational assessment or advice.

10. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, ChanzoPlay is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. If a change materially affects your rights we will tell account holders directly. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
